How to choose the right curtain pole length
Measure once, choose the right range and avoid a pole that will not hold.

Measure the exact space
For a tension pole, measure the distance between the two surfaces the pole will press against — inside the window recess or wall to wall. Measure at the height where the pole will sit.
Pick the range with room to spare
Choose the length range that contains your measurement, ideally with your width near the middle of the range. A pole used at its maximum extension holds less firmly.
- Up to about 110 cm: 70–120 cm
- Standard windows: 110–250 cm
- Wide windows: 210–300 cm
- Extra-wide spaces: 260–350 cm
Check the surfaces
Tension poles need two solid, flat surfaces. Plaster, tiles and painted wood work well; soft or crumbling surfaces do not.
